Champions League

Delivering a secure, seamless broadcast experience to global fans

Multiple sports broadcasters and service providers needed a reliable partner to deliver live feeds from Wembley to viewers across the world for the Champions League final.

The challenge

Eurovision Services and sports broadcasters TNT Sports and EMG / Gravity Media all faced the challenge of needing secure and reliable live feed delivery in the UK and internationally. They sought a trusted partner with a wealth of experience and a wide portfolio to provide a robust solution for their varying needs, whilst controlling their costs.

The solution

A combination of fibre, satellite, and internet solutions were used to transport both the live and back-up match feeds. This ensured a diverse and robust method of delivery for an uninterrupted viewing experience.

As Wembley Stadium is one of our 150 sport and entertainment permanent fibre on-net venues, broadcasters were able to send uncompressed, high-quality feeds to their desired destination. As a result of using existing infrastructure, such as the high-capacity on-site cabinet, these broadcasters benefitted from a more cost-efficient solution.

Satellite was used as a diverse backup route with a total of five trucks across Wembley and fan zones, all supported by on-site broadcast specialist trained engineers to ensure operations ran smoothly. The satellite links were downlinked to separate fan zones across London, for audiences to enjoy the game.

LS Events utilised our internet and Secure Reliable Transport protocol (SRT) service to deliver feeds from our London Switch, Europe’s largest content exchange, to advertising boards. Our occasional use option provided a flexible and cost-effective way to broadcast live content as LS events only paid for the duration needed.

The result

Despite each broadcaster having different requirements, this comprehensive solution utilising BT Media and Broadcast’s wide portfolio ensured that our customers could deliver a seamless viewing experience for millions of fans.
