Our recent industry award win at the BaMs

Our Media & Broadcast team are celebrating after scooping an award at the IABM Broadcast and Media Awards (BaMs™) which were held at this year’s IBC event in Amsterdam. It follows on from a series of prestigious industry accolades over the years and our trophy takes proud place on the mantlepiece next to our Emmy® Award.

Our Media Workflow Connect (MWC) solution – an on-demand network service which provides immediate high-speed links to media and production companies – was recognised under the ‘Connect’ category at the BaMs. The flexible solution has been specifically designed to support the industry’s project-based ways of working and the move to cloud services, while lowering network costs at the same time.

The independent panel of judges – who were looking for industry ‘game-changers’ in the media and broadcasting sector – selected us as one of the winners across ten categories.

The judges credited us for the way in which our MWC solution is packaged, as well as the overall business model, stating:

“Connectivity is one of the biggest challenges in adopting cloud and remote working. BT’s solution goes a long way to addressing some of that, and providing connectivity ‘on-demand’ to suit the project-based nature of productions. The real innovation here is in the packaging and the business model – and that’s an area that many vendors would be wise to focus on more.”

MWC is a high-capacity network service providing on-demand Ethernet Virtual Connects (EVCs) to media and production companies. Customers are able to set up high-speed virtual connections, ranging from 10Mbps to 5Gbps, to key media destinations within minutes of an order being placed and accepted.

Customers have complete control over the service, with the ability to book and schedule virtual connections according to the bandwidth and duration that best suits their needs. And it’s all done via a convenient self-service online portal. Companies only pay for the duration of the virtual connection they choose to book, whether that’s for 24 hours or twelve months. The service is also very flexible in terms of lead times for setting up high-speed links – virtual connections can start immediately or be booked for the future to support a specified project.

MWC also supports the broadcasting industry’s move to the cloud, by providing EVCs to public cloud services, including Amazon Web Services (AWS), Microsoft Azure and Google Cloud Platform.

We’re thrilled that our new, innovative on-demand bandwidth service for the broadcasting industry has been recognised by the BaMs. Media Workflow Connect can transform production/post-production workflows, enabling greater collaboration, encouraging innovation and creativity within the community, but in a low-risk, affordable way. We look forward to working with media and production companies who are eager to reap the clear operational and cost benefits of the new service.
