The annual period of global events is now kicking off in earnest and we’re looking forward to attending the 2017 NAB Show at the Las Vegas Convention Center at the end of April.
An awful lot has happened at BT Media & Broadcast since NAB 2016, so there’ll be plenty of achievements to reflect upon. A major highlight has been the development of our next-generation fibre contribution network, which is delivering multiple uncompressed HD visions to one of our customers, Premier League Productions (PLP). We’re also providing a brand new high capacity optical broadcast network for a major broadcaster in the UK.
We’ve also seen continuing growth in UHD broadcasts over the past year. You can find out some of the details by watching the Advanced Television UHD round-table videos featuring Mark Wilson-Dunn. The videos explore the potential for UHD in production and broadcasting. Many of the standards needed for UHD transmission are now in place but some of the barriers to its widespread adoption amongst broadcasters include the cost of upgrading studios and infrastructure. It remains to be seen how quickly these barriers can be overcome. Watch this space…
Finally, since Ted Carr joined our team six months ago as Head of Sales for North America, he’s been busy travelling from ‘coast to coast’, visiting our key clients, getting to know them better and understanding how we can help their businesses to grow.
