Arm yourself against malicious DDos attacks

Earlier this year BT successfully fought off one of the biggest Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attacks it had ever seen, where criminals attempted to take down a part of the BT network.

Our success in foiling the cyber criminals was the result of BT’s investment in a significant upgrade to the technologies which defend against such attacks. This is helping to protect not only our own company network and brand but also our customers’ networks around the world.

Big DDoS attacks, designed to bring down internet sites by flooding them with bogus traffic requests, have now become par for the course. Dyn, a site that directs users’ internet requests to websites, was a recent victim of such an attack. In fact they were the victim of the biggest known DDoS attack ever. It involved an eye-watering 1.2 TBPS, which knocked some of the world’s most popular websites offline, including Twitter and Netflix, and the attack made headlines around the globe.

Top security tips

Now that everyday items such as web cameras can be used to launch these attacks, the scale of disruption is being raised to a whole new level. If any part of your business or supply chain depends on the internet or internet-delivered services, you could be at risk. So we’ve got some tips to help you stay protected:

Test your current DDoS protection to identify any weaknesses or vulnerabilities in your online presence. Our ethical hacking services will help you understand how to resist an attack.

Protect your critical networks to ensure you can mitigate against threats. Our DDoS services enable us to deploy timely, automatic updates, helping your business stay one step ahead. Our Bronze entry-level product is now only half price – can you risk not being protected?

Keep up to date with the latest threats and attacks. Get daily updates on the latest developments in threats and attacks and be better prepared with our free threat intelligence service. Please contact us if you’d like to find out more about this.

Watch out for cyber criminals. They’re motivated by power, profit or propaganda and will exploit your digital business model in a heartbeat to achieve their ends. As entrepreneurial criminals, they will switch business models quickly – 2015 alone saw a shocking 431 million new variants of malware – so while it’s up to you to make sure you’re well armed against them, know that we’re here to help.

If you have any questions or concerns, your Account Manager will be happy to discuss our security measures with you.
