Making a bang at the DPP Live Explosion
On Tuesday November 28, the Digital Production Partnership (DPP) Live Explosion took place at No.11 Cavendish Square, showcasing some of the top companies in live online production. This included YouTube, Jackshoot and Brightcove.
There were three main presenters on the night. We were treated to insights from Brightcove and YouTube about their platforms and specialities in live online broadcasting. Abi Hemingway. Director at Jackshoot kicked off the evening with a presentation on the BT Media Stream solution that Media & Broadcast and Jackshoot jointly provide, highlighting to the audience the importance of getting it right with broadcast quality.
The key issue at hand is that practically everyone has a smartphone. So they have a camera too. But its quality is nowhere near the same standard as professional broadcasters. Using examples such as London Fashion Week, Abi highlighted the issues when somebody broadcasts live via their phone. Not only was the quality poor but with live streaming, it didn’t take long for a reaction on social media. Good news can spread quickly but bad news will spread quicker. The lesson learnt? If you want to protect your brand, it’s essential to understand your audience, the importance of broadcast quality to them and the impact it will have.
As stallholders at the event, it also gave us the opportunity to engage further with the guests who attended. We were able to speak more about our BT Media Stream capability, built on our quality infrastructure to bridge traditional broadcast and new social media platforms. We’re able to do this with our TV Outside Broadcast fibre network, delivering to over 150 venues around the UK, video switches at BT Tower, high-capacity internet gateway and production facilities at BT Tower, as well as our Madley satellite earth station and Global Media Network. With our trusted capabilities and Jackshoot’s experience in live streaming, we help customers avoid taking the risk of contention on internet access for events and instead enable high-quality broadcast fit for social.
The DPP Live Explosion was a fantastic look into the future of online and we were proud to be part of it. If you have any questions about taking your content to online platforms, just get in touch with us today and we can talk further.
